Adelaide Expansion: Urban Rest Launches Boutique Hotel in Hackney
Adelaide, Australia - Wednesday 11 February 2026
Urban Rest has unveiled its largest Adelaide property to date, marking a major milestone since entering the market in 2024. The owners of the 72-key boutique hotel in Hackney, South Australia chose to operate the hotel on the Urban Rest technology platform, as well as appointing the company to manage the asset under its core Urban Rest brand.
Formerly home to the iconic Hackney Hotel, the site has been reimagined as part of a new mixed-use residential and hotel development. This transformation sets the stage for Urban Rest’s next chapter in redefining digitally led, design-forward boutique accommodation in South Australia.
The announcement comes just five months after Urban Rest secured the HMA to operate a 150-key apart-hotel in Melbourne’s CBD, also being delivered via its custom technology platform, underscoring the pace of its global expansion and reinforcing its vision to deliver flexible short- and long-stay accommodation across key business and lifestyle hubs.
Boutique Design Meets Hotel Comfort
Designed for shorter corporate and leisure stays, the new Urban Rest Hackney Hotel delivers a truly, boutique hotel experience where design, functionality and comfort meet. The interiors balance soft, natural tones with a signature sense of calm and connection.
Guests will enjoy the ease of digital check-in and access, a modern gym, on-site luggage storage and access to a lobby bar and restaurant, Esmay by Blanco Horner Hospitality, one of Adelaide’s leading names in food and beverage. Every part of the property is designed to feel elevated and effortless, a refined stay that blends hotel service with a sense of home.
Rooted in Location
Positioned on the edge of the Adelaide CBD, the property offers immediate access to the city’s parklands, cultural institutions and dining scene. For business travellers, it’s minutes from major offices and the East End precinct; for leisure guests, it’s a gateway to Adelaide.
Urban Rest will share the lobby area of the redeveloped building with a new venture from Blanco Horner Hospitality, one of Adelaide’s most respected hospitality operators. The development sees chef Allana Sapwell-Stone find a permanent home for her popup restaurant, Esmay. The 40-seat restaurant and bar serves both as a unique neighbourhood dining destination and a place where residents, hotel guests and visitors alike meet.
Rounding Out Urban Rest’s Adelaide Portfolio
This new flagship rounds out Urban Rest’s presence in Adelaide, offering travellers a premium hotel experience that complements the brand’s existing long-stay apartments across the city. With its prime location, boutique scale and signature guest-first design, Urban Rest Hackney is set to become a standout addition to Adelaide’s hotel scene.
Jeff Baars, Chief Commercial Officer for Urban Rest added:
“Urban Rest Hackney Hotel marks an exciting new chapter for Urban Rest in Adelaide, with sophisticated, boutique spaces that bring together the best of comfort and technology. As our presence in the city continues to grow, this new property reflects our commitment to building better, more flexible ways to stay for both business and leisure travellers.”
