Urban Rest Surpasses 1,000 Stays as Tech-Enabled Operator Accelerates Global Growth

Sydney, Australia - Tuesday 19 August 2025

Urban Rest, the Australian founded flexible living operator has surpassed a major milestone in its global growth, now with over 1,000 boutique apartments under its operation across Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the United Kingdom. This underscores the operator's position as one of the fastest growing leaders in the boutique and corporate accommodation space.

In the last three years alone, Urban Rest has grown its portfolio from 100 stays to over 1,000, a 900% increase in apartments under management. This growth has been powered by a focus on corporate travel, with the operator now servicing more than 1,000 corporate clients across key global cities such as Sydney, London, Melbourne, Auckland and Dublin. This achievement signals the growing global momentum of the operator as it increases market share in the serviced-accommodation space.

Founder and CEO, David Whelan, commented, “We built Urban Rest as an alternative to traditional accommodation from the ground-up. Core to our offering has always been what the corporate traveller values, well-designed spaces, tech-enabled solutions, and a focus on the world's most-liveable neighbourhoods. Crossing the 1,000 stay mark isn’t just about scale, it’s about changing the industry. We couldn’t be more proud of this achievement, one that would not have been possible without the support of a fiercely dedicated global team, and the trust we have earned from our clients and partners.”

Co-founder and Managing Director for Europe, Izabla Szumierz, added: “Our expansion across Europe has proven the flexibility and scalability of our operating model, from Sydney to Dublin, we’re building a truly unique network of accommodation that corporate travellers love. Our property partners have been key to this rapid expansion, and we continue to invest in systems that help us to grow with them as they scale. We’re so thrilled to have hit this remarkable milestone, one that we know is just the beginning as we set our sights on 2026 and beyond.”

Urban Rest continues to invest heavily in tech-enabled solutions across its portfolio that streamline operations for asset owners and enhance the guest experience, an approach that has both fuelled its rapid growth, and its reputation as a leading flexible living operator.

Looking ahead, Urban Rest has signed new Hotel Management Agreements for the 70 Tory in Wellington, New Zealand, and 23–33 Lonsdale Street in Melbourne, Australia, further underscoring the confidence property partners place in the brand as both an operator and operating platform.

David Whelan concluded: “The opportunity ahead of us is enormous. With strong demand, a proven model, and an exceptional team, Urban Rest is just getting started.”
